[aprssig] Xastir Internet->RF configuration

Hi folks,

I have a low-level RF->internet APRS gateway set up in the shack. I'd like to enable the Internet->RF side, and would like some guidance for the correct settings. I'm currently running Xastir 1.8.4 (yes, it's old) on an old SuSE 10.0 Linux box, connected to an MFJ-1278T TNC and an Alinco DJ-580 HT (5 watts Tx power available).

It's low level because the antenna is simply a twin-lead J-pole hanging on the wall (about 10' above ground level, at the top), and our house is in a bit of a hole, being by a creek. Initially I set it up just to receive APRS information from RF and display what was going on in the area, weather reports, etc. Then when we got an always-on internet connection, I enabled the RF->internet gateway.

Recently I've been contacted a few times by folks for whom I Igated their APRS signal into the internet. Low-level or not, it's providing a service. One person noted that I appeared to have the transmit side disabled; he was trying to do some bi-directional messaging, and wasn't having any success. I'd kind of like to try that too, so I need to turn on the Transmit side.

On the Xastir interface control properties page, I see the button to allow transmitting, and the RF->Inet and Inet->RF button. Currently I have Transmit disabled, and the RF->Inet only button selected. Path 1 is set to APX184 via WIDE1-1; paths 2 and 3 are blank.

Obviously I need to enable Transmit, and the Inet->RF buttons. But, what do I put for the Igate -> RF path?

Are there any other settings I should be aware of before enabling Transmit?
