Kevin:
I've experience with various trackers (TinyTrak, OpenTracker,
PocketTracker) and the HamHUD (II), and a little experience with the
Kenwoods. I'll put in my $.02. Here are some notable things you get
with some of the non-Kenwood options:
Upgradeable firmware.
SmartBeaconing(TM) is a wonderful thing. Much better than a fixed rate
that never changes with motion.
Big red "beacon now" button on the HamHUD (vs. multi-small-button
combinations on the Kenwoods). This may be a minor thing, but it is handy.
Upgradeable firmware.
Panache of having built something yourself (HamHUD, *tra(c)k(er) kits).
In my particular installation (also a Jeep), the voice rig is down
relatively low, yet the HamHUD sits nicely on the dash and is easily
seen while driving.
Upgradeable firmware.
Hardware that reliably comes on when power is applied.
Oh, and did I mention upgradeable firmware?
