Thanks for all the suggestions folks.
With a bit of help and a very quick fix once the error was found I'm back
in business.
It was the arp statement in linux for tun0.
Once that was fixed, voila, there she is....

ivpv4 forwarding was and still is turned on which is the obvious thing to
look for but certainly a great suggestion as to where to start looking.
