As a blanket statement, I agree.  In the particular case of a 1200baud
channel that's already saturated in places, though, it's not an
unreasonable place for the axe to fall in order to manage traffic and
maintain usability of the channel.

Agreed.  There's just not enough of us for economies of scale to make it
worth anyone's while to develop new hardware, I guess.
