[aprssig] Radio Shack demise - 11 meter Citizens Weather

Once more with feeling… The F.C.C. is NOT (repeat NOT) going to make any changes to the CB band. It has been largely de-regulated and there is absolutely ZERO chance that hams are going to get any allocation nor will FCC allow any other types of emission on that band. Taking about the 27 MHz band in the U.S. is a dead end. Get off this idea and let’s move on to doing it on 10 meters where there is SO much room above 29 MHz that you can pretty much set up and do anything you want consistent with the ARRL band plan.

CB radios can be converted and moved up. I have a 40 year old Midland that was converted by simply changing out the crystal that mixed everything together and VOILA!: a 10 meter AM/SSB radio…

Now THAT is an idea. Afterall, APRS weather is more closer to CITIZENS WEATHER already!

Lets ask the FCC for two channels. One for APRS Citizens Weather, and the other for other real-time needs.

Does anyone want to initiate the papwer work with the FCC. I have seen a lot of other stupid ideas sent to them, why not this one. We can SURE show them what it entails by showing them all the CITIZENS weather on APRS already!

Well, it might be nice if the FCC would allow other emission types on CB. Over in Germany, they are doing APRS weather on their CB frequencies (Google "CBAPRS" for more info). That might be worth asking the FCC to allow.

Is there any actual regulatory reason we can't just go there? No license needed. Is there a prohibition that applies?
