CB is actually useful, because it has such a huge
installed base. During disasters - when so many
other services can be disabled - lots of wireless
point-to-point comms (in addition to Ham radio)
will still be possible.
Big rigs & heavy equipment are often equipped and
it's a good way to coordinate with them - as well
as volunteers with pickups & off-road equipment,
winches, etc.
It was dumb-on-steroids for the FCC to move CB from
450MHz to 27MHz long ago - but we are stuck with the
mess they created ... sadly, they are poised to ruin
the Internet with censorship, fees, regs, & partisan
(crony) favoritism under the fradulent term "net
neutrality".
Sorry ... climbing down off the soap box ...
