It's always dangerous to make presumptions, 1st false presumtion is that 
digipeater software will only be used for aprs, 2nd false presumption is 
thinking that the PID and controll field for aprs will never change.

One clear exsample is opentrac, it is an UI frame but not a text PID and 
is suported by digined and most other digipeater implementations.
