Here is a rough way to see whether additional coverage is needed.  Go to
APRS.FI and put in the existing digi.  Go to "Station Info," then click on
the blue "Show Map" link part way down the page.  It will give a map with
the color coded coverage, which you can zoom.  If the area around your QTH
is unshaded, or perhaps light blue, then you can help.  If a shade of red,
then not.
