It could be a matter of messages that were re-sent when he
"connected to the Internet" or he could have been viewing messages
sent to him using one of the websites that access the APRS-IS such
as findu.com or aprs.fi or a few other explanations. He would be
the person to give the exact explanation about how he later got
the messages.

Tom mentioned APRSIS32 to you. This is not to be confused with
"the" APRS-IS (Internet System) which consists of many APRS
servers all linked together. In a nutshell, whatever makes it to
an iGate is available from any of the servers as they all share
the data. While there's nothing wrong with trying new software
like APRSIS32, don't forget older software which is still
available. While there is a growing group of APRSIS32, there are
also thousands of people still using UI-View. There are actually
5056 users currently subscribed to the UI-View support list.
UI-View32 can be downloaded from www.ui-view.org. It can
be run as an APRS client, as a digi, as an iGate or all of them.
As a digi, a 10 second edit is needed to bring it into the 21st
century. There are also dozens of add-ons available that
work with UI-View. While you can use static maps, and there
is a map server that will fetch maps as long as you have an
Internet connection, there is also a $50 solution that will give
you street level zoomable and scrollable maps for all of
North America with no need for an Internet connection.
