I did a search for "running the TH-D72A from external power" and 
ended up following a link to a dealer's site where they indicated...

     Current transmit with HI, 13.8V (DC IN)
     VHF (Approx. 1.7 A) UHF (Approx. 2.1 A) 

I assume that is from the specs, so it appears you would need a
power supply that can put out 1.7 or 2.1 amps depending on if
you were operating on VHF or UHF. However, their PG-3J 12V
cable has a 2 amp fuse in it.
