Oh Yes. I was thinking that was a given and separate issue.
So, I think a reasonable party-line becomes:
If you have only one APRS station:
While the use of SSIDs is deprecated and no longer required for system operation, including one is 'nice' and highly preferred/recommended, for display purposes and those who casually look at raw packets. In this case use the SSID as recommended in the (Bob) list.
If you have more than one APRS station:
You MUST use SSIDs to differentiate between stations with the same basic call sign. Adhering to the Preferred list is preferred as above. [redundancy noted]

In the '80s I developed a laser light show system using ther Radio Shack (900 Kc Clock) Color Computer. *I* picked the coordinate system origin! It's 128, 128.
(8x8 bit display)
