[aprssig] Use call without SSID?

I was under the impression that specific SSIDs for specific types of station was discontinued several years ago.
And one other thing -- I usually treat an "SSID nazi" as I would treat a 20-meter "DX cop" -- I put them on permanent disregard. On APRS that means I BUDLIST them out of every single piece of equipment I can control.

Hi,
Locally there has been an explosion of interest in APRS, which is good.
That has brought the inevitable argument about using SSIDs, and if so, which
one. In fact, we already have a budding "SSID Nazi" wanting to dictate.
There are many SSID lists, but one thing which is mostly ignored is
operating a non-digi/gateway without an SSID. I did find one reference
about using a bare call (-0) for a home station, but the reference is so old
that it includes paths using RELAY. I would like to give them a WWBD
reference, but do not want to confuse them with old paradigm path issues.
Any definite suggestions about a good, current reference on the issue? It
is at once not very important, but also a chance to get things started in
compliance with current best practices.
