Bill,
That is Pete Coons (forget his callsign) and his large group, mainly youth
from the Adler Planetarium in Chicago.
Obviously, they do not understand how APRS digipeating works, and or did
not consider the impact on other users over a wide area. A path of WIDE1-1
on a balloon causes massive qrm. There are 3 balloons beaconing every 30
seconds with 2 hop paths, though one is using WIDE2-2 instead of
WIDE1-1,WIDE2-1. Very often packets are delayed and packets are received
out of sequence. This also causes the icons on the map to ping-pong back
and forth.
They appear to be in need of some elmering before their next launch.

I met him back in March or April.
They launch from about 10 miles from my home at Koerner Airfield on the SW
outskirts of Kankakee. I should get on their mailing list and do some
chasing one day. Might be fun.
For anyone interested in a simple on the ground RF APRS story.
Check out this article on page two from the April KARS Key Klicks newsletter
from Kankakee, IL.
