My Street Pilot C580 already receives weather advisories, watches and
warnings and can light up shape files on the map.

A thundercloud icon appears on top of the the on-screen map
periodically. Tapping this icon produces a text summary of the
advisory/watch/warning. A second tap displays the map with a translucent
colored overlay of the warning area, just like the NWS shape overlays in
UIview or APRSplus.

I'm not clear if this is something in the MSN information services
feature included on some Garmins or whether it comes from somewhere else
(is WAAS also including basic WX info perhaps???). All I know is
that I am receiving these WX alerts but have NOT activated the optional
subscription MSN information services that include realtime weather,
traffic, gas prices, etc. Or is some basic level of WX data from the
MSN service available even without subscribing? (The manual makes no
mention of weather data without subscription.)
