They should, since that is fundamental to managing the tactical map at events or in the local area. But a primary failure in most APRS implementations is that too many treat "STATIONS" and OBJECTS separately. That was never the intent of APRS.

OBJECTS are just a format (method) for being able to put a "thing" on the map that does not have its own TNC and CALLSIGN field. But otherwise, on receipt, STATIONS and OBEJCTS should be treated the same and transparently.

THis means if Joe's KB3XXX tracker dies and leaves him
at the starting point, that ANYONE can take over his symbol on their map, MOVE HIM to where he should be now, and now he is an object owned by them. It doesnt matter if he was initially a "STATION". Once you own the object, they you can also do a KILL function, and that should be KILLED or updated on everyone elses map.

I believe UIview did not implement any of this, which is one of the main reasons we do not see people managing "things" on the map at APRS special events.

Can someone confirm or correct this summary with respect to UIview and any other clients that mistakenly treat objects and stations differently?
