Or even better, opto isolate it.  Sounds like you have a conducted RFI problem.  Use a decent external antenna connected to the D7, but with a seperate ground plane, even a 1/4 wave "mag-mount" will drasticaly reduce the ammount of RF on the serial cable, and also improve the RX performance too..
