[aprssig] help with UI-view

Nick,

Most programs don't work with typical USB GPS inputs because the format is
not NMEA, and they expect to see a serial port for input. (There are always
exceptions!) However, you should be in luck with the GPS 18. Take a look
at:

https://buy.garmin.com/shop/store/downloadsDetails.jsp?id=1627&product=010-0
0321-05&cID=158&pID=223

The SPANNER program should fix both problems, as it converts the proprietary
output to NMEA, and creates a virtual serial port which UI-VIEW32 should
see. (You will need a port numbered 8 or below, as that is all UI-VIEW32
sees.) Note that you need to have the latest firmware, which you can also
get from that site. Your unit is new, so unless it has been on a shelf for
a few months, you should be current. I have a serial GPS 18, so have no
experience with this software personally. The UI-VIEW32 support group is
great as well. Good luck.
