I was looking at pulse position modulation, but not for high speed - I
wanted to see if position information could be sent from a balloon using a
strobe. If the strobe can blink once per second and can be triggered with
millisecond accuracy, that's easily enough to send one byte per second, and
a complete position in 10 or 15 seconds. You'd need to track it with a
telescope, and it'd work best at night. But it wouldn't draw much power,
and the average power to peak power ratio is hard to beat.

Anyone played with spread spectrum or pulse modulation for APRS ?
Been doing a lot of aviation training of late and they can send their
positions twice a second using Pulse Position modulation.
