Page 47 of the January 2006 Mobile Radio Technology magazine has this
short news item/new product announcement:

"Pryme Radio Products

The PTG GPS speaker microphone incorporates a GPS receiver and a
radio-frequency modem within a remote speaker-microphone. The solution
brings location capability to hand-held radios, both conventional and
trunked, without adding modems and GPS receivers to the radio,
according to the company. [At least if they are not P25 digital
radios. The voice-oriented codecs in digital radios would completely
destroy any modem tones fed into the mic jack... SHS]

The GPS microphone includes a man-down button that give the exact
location of a first responder, while users can watch the data in real
time. [At least if he is down outdoors! - SHS ]

The device is completely programmable and configurable using
Windows-based software. While secure functions require a direct cable
to a PC, most routine functions can be programmed over the air, the
company said. "

[The picture included in the article shows a typical speaker-mic with a
small (less than one inch long) stubby whip sticking out the top -
apparently a monopole GPS antenna. ]
