Notes from PSWS / TangerineSDR call of 12-16-2019

1. Bill has created a Linux socket-based Flask/Python web-based
proof-of-concept for the SBC host computer for PSWS. It's early, but
showing signs of life. Bill may be able to bring an Odroid-N2 demonstration
to Orlando Hamcation for HAMSCI folks.

2. There was a discussion about security requirements. It was not clear
that everyone is talking about the same interfaces. The SBC has two logical
interfaces: one to the data engine and one ot the Internet, but one
physical Ethernet interface. With the current DE design (having two
Ethernet connectors) the Internet traffic travels through the DE to the
SBC. So can the LCC adequately ioslate the DE-SBC from the Internet traffic
from a security perspective? Do we need a router with firewall to isolate
the DE from the Internet? Would that be adequate? Is it likely that would
be available anyway (such as embedded within a home DSL/Cable modem, or the
University equivalent)?

There are other alternative architectures. One could be an SBC with
multiple Ethernet connectors. Linux usually provides integrated
functionality that can provide firewalled (UFW) WAN and LAN personalities
as well as routing. Then the DE would only use a single Ethernet interface
which is isolated by the SBC from the Internet. However the cost of these
types of SBCs may be higher than R-PI4 or Odroid-N2.

More discussion of alternatives (perhaps offline) may be useful here.

3. Discussion of Orlando Hamcation (Feb 7-9, 2020) TangerineSDR
presentations.
