[nos-bbs] My Astron RS-20A experience

Based on recent personal experience ...

I bought a brand new RS-20A, 9 months ago, it's been cutting out
a few times, then finally the regulator blew 10 days ago. I replaced
it a few days later, but then the Astron started tripping out hourly,
so I shut it down a bit and did some reading. It's quite remarkable
what I have read about these things, and truly shaking my head.

Both the compensation cap (n47) and the driver transistor base
cap (103) were MISSING on my unit, and quite frankly, the solder
work is horrendous. But I am not sending it back, I will continue
to use it, there was a reason I bought it, but you should know !

Apparently one of the features of buying a new Astron supply is the
money you pay for these things, basically pays for the parts ! It's your
your job as the owner, user, to make sure the parts are in place, or
properly soldered in, and so on. I pity those who do not have a
decent electronic background to fix these things.

Do yourself a favor and check this site (huge amounts of info) :

Am I being harsh ? perhaps, but really for $300 to have a brand
new unit MISSING important parts, anyways, crossing my fingers
and waiting to see how the newly added parts work out ...

Merry Christmas everyone.

Maiko
