[nos-bbs] mbox fbb 2 errors with FBB

Bob,

FYI – I’m also seeing errors with “mbox fbb 2” when forwarding to a BPQ station over telnet. I haven’t narrowed it down yet. More info to follow after I gather the data.

But the point being: perhaps you’re on to something, Bob. Perhaps something in telnet is affecting them both.

Michael

Maiko,

Was this not the problem with compressed binary forwarding from fbb to jnos with telnet?
The channel has of course to be set to binary and any embedded IAC commands must be obeyed.

3.2.7 Telnet Binary Option: RFC-856

When the Binary option has been successfully negotiated, arbitrary 8-bit characters are allowed. However, the data stream MUST still be scanned for IAC characters, any embedded Telnet commands MUST be obeyed, and data bytes equal to IAC MUST be doubled. Other character processing (e.g., replacing CR by CR NUL or by CR LF) MUST NOT be done. In particular, there is no end-of-line convention (see Section 3.3.1) in binary mode.
-------

The above is also what I have seen happening with particular bytes when I analysed the compressed bit stream with FBB over a telnet connection.
IAC = Interpret as command character.

This can all work as long as the protocol keeps track and manages these special bytes in the stream. It works fine with FBB to and from FBB as far as I have seen.

IAC Telnet commands are proceeded with 255

That was with my station and only when I used telnet forwarding with FBB.
I'm still counting bytes when I can't sleep :-)

Developer of FBB is Bernard, F6BVP since many years.
