Mike,
Is ipv4 ip forwarding enabled in debian?
You can enable it in /etc/sysctl.conf
look for...
# Uncomment the next line to enable packet forwarding for IPv4
#net.ipv4.ip_forward=1
Remove the '#' and run the following command from the shell as the
superuser:
sysctl -p
