Good afternoon,

Out of curiosity, I googled for the following :

    ubuntu curses tty blank

There are some very interesting posts, for ANY curses program,
nevermind just jnos. For instance :

Also, there are references to problematic graphic drivers, vesafb, etc ...

Perhaps sorting through the GOOGLE results from above, you may be able
to find a solution to this problem.
