[nos-bbs] JNOS smtp - discussion

Well, that option/switch would only toggle between everything goes direct
(current behavior) and everything goes to the gateway. If you have a single
JNOS system, that's fine, I guess. But for a network of JNOS systems, we
need to be able to allow JNOS to go direct when that's possible/desired, and
send everything else to the gateway. Again, sending everything to the
gateway so it can be sent back to locally reachable destinations is fine for
Ethernet connections, but a significant problem for 1200/9600 baud radio
connections. The single point of failure is also a problem. If we lose the
gateway, then all local mail stops, not just Internet connected mail. Not
good.

A good first step would be to have the option for JNOS to go direct if the
destination is listed in local domain.txt file. That was the first command
I listed. But I figured that configurations vary and, as long as the code
is being updated, its best to handle the more general cases.

I agree with you Micheal too much work.

Well it means that only one extra option/switch has to added something like,

smtp gateway x.x.x.x (old behaviour)

smtp gateway --all x.x.x.x (Everything directly to the smtp gateway x.x.x.x
)

Of course as always the rewrite file has to be checked, all that stuff
remains in place.

Also a possibility is that the behaviour of "smtp gateway" can be set at
compile time.
