Interesting timing Michael.

We are in the closing phases of installing five more with one call in
Ottawa County.

It is well to sort out "why".
The root of the "requirement" is to *simplify* use of the AX.25
"connect" to a jnos node.
Only for the AX.25 network.
When the call is unique for the bbscall,
==>then jnos responds to a connect request without requiring a
"prompting character".

Using the idea "required" is an overstatement.
Only ONE unique call is "REQUIRED" for all services on one jnos
incidence [node]
BUT
if the bbscall is not unique then the remote operator must enter a
character [usually a CR] to allow local jnos to resolve how to respond
to the request.

Short answer:
   yes -- more than one.
yes -- the SSID is the tool to give uniqueness to the call.

Not really, but all [mycall, bbscall, ttycall, ETC] may have [actually
default to] one unique mycall with SSID [0-15].
So one valid SSID scheme is:
xx6xxx-0 home "all calls"
xx6xxx-1 car "all calls"
xx6xxx-2 truck "all calls"
xx6xxx-3 boat "all calls"
xx6xxx-4 hill-top somewhere "all calls"
=>until you run out of SSIDs and it requires the ol' CR to get going

Another is:
xx6xxx-0 home mycall
xx6xxx-2 car mycall
xx6xxx-4 truck mycall
xx6xxx-6 boat mycall
xx6xxx-8 hill-top somewhere mycall
xx6xxx-1 home bbscall
xx6xxx-3 car bbscall
xx6xxx-5 truck bbscall
xx6xxx-7 boat bbscall
xx6xxx-9 hill-top somewhere bbscall
==>you get 1/2 the number of rigs because you run out of SSIDs sooner
but no cr is needed.

There is NO STANDARD for SSID assignment.
Some have gone very OVERBOARD in setting SSID recommendations -- read
with a skeptical eye.
More importantly -- have fun!
