This has nothing to do with Jnos but I guess some may also use FBB so 
sorry for
the noise at this list.

The FBB package as supplied with Ubuntu 8.10 (and 8.04) doesn't work.
FBB generates a buffer overflow during startup.
I see some(!) complains about this at Internet

You have to compile your own.

Fbb source compiled with the default gcc-4.3 will still generate
a buffer overflow.

(the option -fno-stack-protector doesn't help with fbb  & gcc-4.3)

Please compile fbb with the older GCC-3.4 compiler.
Set CC to gcc-3.4 in the Makefile of fbb.

The latest Fbb source  xd704r-src.tgz  (compressed with bzip and not 
with gzip!)
can be downloaded from F6BVP - the unofficial maintainer nowadays.
