Hi, Everyone.
I've been lurking and found a thread that for once, I may be able to
contribute some knowledge/experience to.
Got this from a friend who operated TNOS, and adopted it when I started
running JNOS.
We broke our areas down to a few basic public ones based on where they
were intended to be delivered. We had one that was called "ww", another
called "allusa", one for "allwis" (for All Wisconsin, the state we live
in), one for "local", yet another for "nts", one for "sysop" and of course
the users' private mail areas.
We set up our rewrite file to filter and divert mail delivery to these
areas based upon their intended distribution.
This means that you don't have to try and keep up with the various To:
fields that users will create or even misspell. Our BBS users would then
not have to keep switching to various areas. In my observation, typical
users just want the BBS to dump out a list of messages that they can read,
and then pick the ones that they want. They don't want to keep changing
areas or categories. That becomes more of a hassle than it's worth.
Perhaps this is an idea you can try.
And as along as I am out of lurk mode, I'll say Thanks to Maiko for
keeping this project going. While we don't have too much activity in our
area, it is still great to be able to operate JNOS. And even better that
it is updated and improved.
I'll go back to Lurking now.
