James Dugal, n5knx, was AFAIK the official maintainer of the JNOS codebase.  
So far, I haven't seen a peep out of him, but I bet he would really support 
you for taking up the codebase.

I don't know about 2.0  :)  Still, if you like the idea, go for it!
