There are far too many appliance operators in our hobby who just want
"the next shiny new thing that works" for your hope to be true. We can
clearly see that the closed and platform limited nature of VARA hasn't
been a hindrance to its adoption.

It's sad just how a hobby ostensibly dedicated to learning and the
advancement in the radio art is dependent on proprietary, and often
immutable, software and firmware; especially at a time when many radios
are now computers with antennas.
