I've been totally amazed by the same thing - lack of detailed info. Nothing
from places like NASA, National Solar Observatory, etc that you would think
would have the high-powered graphics to do this.

This is based on a zoomable Google map - scroll in to get the usual Google Maps
detail anywhere in the US.
