Thanks Steve & the group,

doing some studying before doing anything with hardware, the
hamshack needs a good cleaning up, but I can download and read files.
So the help with the personal research is very much appreciated.

I managed to read APRS101 thanks to a few days off work and sticking
to an exercise routine on my training stand mounted recumbent bicycle
which has a handlebar mounted tablet for background music and / or
reading.

My earliest exposure to APRS was with simple trackers, and Xastir on
Linux. But I really didn't have any depth of understanding. Although
I'm back to work on Monday I'll find time to keep up the exercise
routine and the reading. If it doesn't come in handy for me here maybe
I could help out a new amateur.

   73 Ron
