[aprssig] Commands sent via APRS

I am using APRS on Xastir with a dedicated Linux system on 24/7. Is it 
possible to send commands via APRS to activate external equipment to the 
computer, like flip a switch or ring a bell?

My personal main interest in this is to operate a relay to briefly flash 
a strobe and sound a buzzer to alert someone to come check messages 
and/or connect a speaker on another radio to hear incoming traffic.
