[aprssig] Winlink aprs client software

There are no WINLINK clients in APRS that I know of yet technically any APRS
program that supports messaging will work. The APRS packet network is not
really suited to handle the packets and traffic for a true WINLINK telnet
style connection session. APRS networks run in an unconnected state and as
such the only packets that do the traditional acknowledgements are messages
specifically. Connected packet sessions perform very poorly on the APRS
system since all traffic is sent as UI frames. An analogy of this in the
computer networking world is UDP traffic vs. TCPIP.

All that being said, you can check and send short WinLink message through
APRS via the gateway. Read up on that here:

Subject: [aprssig] Winlink aprs client software

A late Merry Christmas to all of you,

does anyone know a software that can work as a winlink client via the
aprs Network? Softwares like pat (getpat.io) for exsample support the
AX.25 protocol, but for the old packet radio network only. In my region
there are only a few packet radio Digis left, most of them were
replaced by Hamnet stations, but APRS is highly available.
The Winlink APRS gateway can be controlled by sending commands as text
messages. This is nice when only a handheld radio is at your hands, but
a bit uncomfortable when operating from a laptop or tablet.

Thanks so much for your help.
