No, use the tablet or phone only in WIFI access.  Still works.

And the APRSdroid app connects via the tablet audio to radio audio and can
work on RF too.



Or do I have this wrong?

But not without having the junker phone or tablet activated on a cellular
data plan.  Then this only goes to the APRS Internet System via cellular
data.  You are INVISIBLE to mobile RF users.

I don't consider this "real" APRS; i.e. radio-to-radio.
