[aprssig] Txt messaging

SMSGATE is great when you know you want to send a message to SMS but I was
thinking of an extension of that concept where once you register a station
all messages sent to that station will be forwarded to SMS.

If a user doesnt want to receive sms when their aprs radio is on this
functionality could be toggled on and off via aprs message ack's. Initially
it could wait a predefined amount of time to make sure an ack isnt sent
before sending to sms then the forwarding functionality will be on with no
delay until an ack is received.

It seems to me that this would make APRS messaging far more useful. I am
much more likely to message someone via it if i know the message is likely
to make it through.

currently, ive thought about a more text messaging style app that
integrates with aprsdroid. Also ive been wanting to put together a service
that will forward aprs messages to peoples phones when their radio isnt on,
haven't had time to throw it together though.

ham radio especially in the aprs world. Txt has been pretty much limited to
a station with a computer or one of the aprs equipped radio. Texting with

Bluetooth to a radio and a ham txt app was written for such messaging on

available? Any radio could be made into a aprs txt radio and with the

network. Or you could set at home and txt others via your radio and
smartphone. There maybe other technicalities I'm missing but it sounds like
a inexpensive way to start. You could also attach this to any band radio,
6m, 220 ect for more flexibility. I know there is a aprs app for android I
think that does this but it maybe more aimed at position reporting where my
thought are more towards messaging. We have a pretty decent igate network
where this would work well and maybe it would increase the use of texting
on our ham network.
