Sorry, forgot another solution: ditch arduino and use a raspberry pi. I haven't used it, but direwolf looks like a pretty potent software modem, and there are others out there. with careful shopping you can get a Pi 3, uSD card, and power supply for $50. No idea if the cheaper pi zero will do the job. -Jason kg4wsv
