Exactly, in your opinion. My opinion differs. As the creator of the APRS Internet System I do not claim that my opinion matters more than yours, or anyone else's. I do claim that a founding principle of the APRS Internet System, that the few should not dictate to the many, is a good one and ought to be respected. It was my considered and deliberate call to leave IGating decisions to local areas.

The decisions about IGating should local ones, it only affects users on the RF side. I know I'm not omnipotent, and I understand that I cannot anticipate every condition, and I left decisions with local effects in the hands of local users.
