Here is how to do APRS at field day:

It lets you send global CQ's to all other stations on the planet doing the
same thing and then you make message-message contact.  I assume the rules
have not changed and so these contacts don't count since they are going via
digipeaters and the APRS-IS, but it sure is fun to operate.

For the first time in decades, I wont be on, unless I remember to try it
from my High School 50th reunion party in Alabama with my D72...

These message servers are a powerful aspect of APRS allowing global contact
within groups, so if you dont know how to do this, this is a good time to
get familiar with it.
