Also look at the "PI Plates" (piplates.com I believe) I have their a//d-d/a and io plate there's a switch on that that can be configured to shut down the pi when you hit it. To turn it back on you have to power-cycle. It's just a gpio pin.

Hi Greg,
Check out the "UPS PIco" from modmypi.com. It is a UPS for the PI. When the power shuts down in the vehicle, the PI can go into a shutdown sequence.
This should protect the SD card from corruption.
I picked up two of these but have not yet used them but they look promising.
