Gmail has a very aggressive deduplication mechanism - you never see messages that you send out.  It was so bad that, at one point, I would not receive list messages because, as a list moderator, I received part of the message in the moderation alert email.

It may be that your service provider has a similar deduplication policy (or even uses gmail themselves).
