The purpose of Repeater objects sourced by local Digipeaters is for ON-AIR
information to visiting mobiles in the area. Having these objects sourced
on the APRS-IS makes no sense because they miss their #1 reason for being.
The ONLY place such objects should be sourced on RF is **from** the
digipeater itself. Only the digipeater can hear the channel load and so
only the DIGI can transmit the object when the channel is CLEAR. Sourcing
these objects anywhere but at the DIGI are just SPAM that collides with
other users and have a net NEGATIVE impact on the APRS system.
Please read http://aprs.org/localinfo.html
Yet their value to traveling APRS mobiles are immense! And they have NO
impact on other users IF-and-ONLY-IF they are sourced from the digis.

Hi,
It looks like the openaprs servers are on autopilot and no longer working.
My question is: does anyone knoe of a similar service that allows a
“member” to insertobjects/icons at locations and then have them displayed
od APRS maps. We have 2 dozen of our repeaters on the APRS maps by using
openaprs amd since openaprs does not seem reliabe anymore I would like to
“host” our icons somewhere else.
