Hello all
Please see below, I had followed up w/ Phil several times since, but, to no avail. Is he’s still a Tier-2 Network contact and/or if I might be knocking at the wrong door. I wanted to surface this request again and see if anyone had any recommendations or what the request process is to add a server node to the APRS-IS server network
Thanks all
Nagi

Hi Phil
So, I was looking at the NOAM T2 servers spread across here and mapped it out; Please see below screenshot of this mapping. I see that in the North Central region, we are missing a centralized T2 server. The closest I can reach from Minnesota is OH or IN. IN is typically slower or highly flooded. Columbus, OH server is the most available and closest.
Considering this, it made me think that perhaps hosting a server at my QTH Minnesota would provide the needed North Central region coverage.
I have my own data center I manage out of my home for many years. And, this would be a good addition of service
And hence my reach out to you. I am mostly Windows guy, but, have also hosted Linux servers.
Thoughts ?? Any ideas ?
Nagi

Hi! Sorry for the delay. End of summer shenannigans.
So, what has sparked your interest in running a server? It used to be a big deal, back when bandwidth was scarce and software was less than reliable. Now, we are really only adding servers that are located in Tier 2-4 data centers, as the bulk of our servers now are. Let me know what you have! We are always open to suggestions, and have converted Tier2 over to a more open-source type of operation in the last year.

Hello folks
At one point I was exploring if it was possible to add a server to the APRS-IS Tier 2 pool. I tried finding a process and/or guidance – searched for it in and around http://aprs-is.net/ - but, w/ no avail.
Anyone has any guidance or reading material you can point me to. Also, was interested in knowing if the server pool entertains, “QA” vs “Production” staging pool for testing and moving to production purposes.
Thanks in advance
Nagi
