Don' forget go have the bulb side in the Hot side, for the continuous type.  For the alternating type ( I've never seen this type) I think you're pretty much upgeflegt.
I have one that lights an LED and get frustratingly mixed results.
ALSO, a binary search style can help greatly.

That said, it'll always still always be the last one you check. (;-D)
