I fit into the latter category.  I support bicycle events in Orlando 
even though I live in Melbourne.  Our group over here isn't as organized 
(nor are the events as large) as the folks over there. Every one I've 
done has qualified as a "good day".  What could be better?  Driving 
around playing ham and APRS and helping good causes!
