And it doesn't have a replaceable battery. Kind of expensive to throw away after a couple of years.

If I understand correctly it is proprietary - so only
if others have the same device will it work.
What are the odds that enough of the people you really
"need" to communicate with will own them and have them
and have them fully-charged and be in-range and be able
to keep the power-levels up when you most need them?
