Strangely I'm just sat here with a pile of TNC manuals...

8bitconv ON|OFF - when ON allows 8-bit data in converse mode.
AWlen 8 to set 8-bit data on the serial port (TNC2 clones) or PARITY 0 
(Kantronics)
