Considering the average IQ of the crackheads that run around stealing stuff,
I doubt taking out a full page ad with "I AM ON VACATION NOW" would have
much impact, let alone expecting them to figure out APRS and what it means. 
I think APRS being used by criminals is about number 2,350th or so on the
list if things I worry about. Pirates DO use AIS, but it has off switch for
when you are in their area ;)
