Oops.   The above is for the D700 which appears to have one serial 
port for both the radio and the TNC.   Therefore I don't know if the 
following paragraph is correct.

I did find some information at

with links at the bottom..   Ahh, here we go. This PDF file has the 
commands in 
it.    http://n3ujj.com/manuals/control_commands.pdf   but it's rather cryptic.

I'd suggest joining the Yahoo TM-D710_TM-V71 group and asking in 
there.   I see that at least Kai, who was a co-author of the 
control_commands.pdf file is active in that mailing list.
