[aprssig] [APRS] CQ FD server

Yes, Direct counts.

I am absolutely astounded that out of 15,000 APRS hams in the USA, only 10
of us used the CQ FD server.

NO, you rarely get the ACK or the response, because the CQSRVR only tries
twice and usually it is lost in QRM, but that does not matter, it still
got sent out to everyone (but again, only a few times). So the messages
are working, but they do not RETRY very hard so as not to overload the
network I think I did see one from you.

Maybe what people do not understand is how that is really just for CALLING
CQ and seeing who else on the planet is also calling CQ. Then when you
see the other call, you are supposed to then send them an APRS message
addreessed to their actuall call so that you can exchange or keep
chatting.

Remmebr, once you know someone's call, you can communicate all you want in
real time. The CQSRVR message just lets you know WHO else is out there
live.

Hi Bob,
I tried this today on my way to field day. I see that messages were sent
to me (aprs.fi), but I didn't receive any to the rig. Do I need to change
a path setting? I added CQSRVR into my messages filter on my D710
(KC2ASA-8) which I had off for about 4 hours (~2pm-6pm EDT) while I was
using my D72 HT (KC2ASA-7).
I even found another APRS user in my club on our hilltop that I didn't
know about until I saw his beacon. We wondered if a direct APRS contact
(not via digipeater) could count for Field Day points.
73's!
